The holes start small, about the size of a pencil lead, and they never self-heal. A liner with pitting needs to come out. Running it is how you get carbon monoxide working its way into the house through wall cavities between floors.
• Improperly supported Famco flex liner sagging above the firebox. A liner isn’t supposed to hang loose in the old flue. When an installer skipped the top plate or didn’t strap the liner correctly, the weight pulls down over time and can pinch or kink just above the connection.
